2018 Wisdom Quest Porto and the Douro Valley, Portugal
September 10-15, 2018

What are the stories defining you today? Who is in the driver’s seat of the story (stories) you are living right now?

You are invited to join Deborah Bateman and Dr. J’lein Liese on a very special Wisdom Quest!

To give you an idea of what we are planning, allow us to share one of J’Lein’s recent stories:

When I find myself feeling stretched too thin, I realize I am not in the driver’s seat of my story. More often than not, I am trying to fit into other people’s stories and make their story work for me.

Not long ago, I was working with a senior executive who was filled with angst about having a dif-ficult conversation with one of his direct reports. As part of my work to help transform the culture of this organization, I had encouraged his direct report to “clean up” the relationship with him as it had gone off course. The senior executive was livid with me. He was not looking to fix the rela-tionship and now I put him in the difficult position of having to meet with his subordinate, and now he was looking to make it my fault.

When I first received the angry email, I could feel my heart rate accelerate and I immediately let his story take over what I was doing at the time. I knew I was in his story because I felt emotion-ally hijacked, worried about his anger, and had an immediate need to “fix the problem” that I ap-parently had created.

And then, I took a breath and said to myself, “No.” Buying into his angst only perpetuates a story that is not helping him, his employee or the organization. I chose a different story. I chose a story aligned with my values and belief in him as a leader.

When we met, I led with my story. We discussed leadership, his leadership and how to develop this employee. Two days later, I heard from both the senior leader and the employee – their conversa-tion went great and both were very happy. The senior executive transformed from wanting to fire the employee to saying there is no greater satisfaction then helping someone grow as a person.

The moral of the story: Changing my story also changed his.

Leaders own the narrative. If you are ever in the position of having to defend, justify or explain yourself, it means someone else is telling your story.

As women, how often do we find ourselves trying to get in the driver’s seat of our story?

This September, join us in an intimate, deeply reflective Wisdom Quest in the wine country of Portugal to uncover your “real” story – the essence that makes you unique.

We are not talking about the story you may have lived thus far based on your life experiences. Nor are we talking about other people’s stories of you that you may have tried to live up to… Just the contrary!

  • Learn how to identify and own your unique story and be in the driver’s seat so you never again have to justify or defend who you are.
  • Learn how to update your story so that what you are doing today is also aligned with the story you want to live.
  • And finally, learn how to use your story as part of your personal brand – using “mir-ror neurons” (yes they are real!) to attract the relationships and business that you want, on your terms, because your will be driving your story!

All this takes place in our own PRIVATE VILLA on a wine estate in the Douro Valley!

The Wisdom Quest includes:

  • Daily yoga with our private instructor
  • Group and One-on-One Coaching
  • Most meals (prepared by our private chef)

  • What is a Wisdom Quest?

A Wisdom Quest is an elegantly designed journey that will help you free your vision and empower you to cross the next threshold.

Wisdom Quests gather our “collective wisdom” to create an opportunity to reflect, rejuvenate and receive support. It is an opportunity to explore the pieces of yourself that may have been set aside or left behind as you have experienced success in other areas.

In a beautiful locale and in community with your peers, experience the opportunity to examine and evolve both your professional and personal life. These journeys give you access to resources to address challenges and discover the passion that will propel you into the next chapter of your life.

Is a Wisdom Quest right for you?

    • Do you consider your self successful, but you also sense “something more” calling you?
    • Perhaps your children are growing up or you’ve achieved one set of professional goals and are ready for new challenges?
    • Maybe unexpected life changes have created an opportunity to live the next phase of your life differently?

Whatever has brought you to this threshold, a passion for meaning and contribution will lead you on. If you are ready for the next chapter in your life to open, then I’d love to help you discover it on a Wisdom Quest.

Previous Wisdom Quests have included Kenya, Nepal, Bhutan, Italy, and Machu Piccu & Russia.

  • Wisdom Quest Praise

“These women have become dear friends which I never expected and am so very grateful to have this as the ongoing outcome of what was truly a fabulous experience. The memories will live on, but more importantly the friends I made are now a critical piece of the fabric of my life.”
    – MaryAnn Guerra, CEO – BioAccel

“The Wisdom Quest experience brings women leaders together for an opportunity to spend time as friends while sharing new sights and cultures, and most important – to look ahead to the future as well as reflect on life’s lessons from the past and present. I treasured the opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, to laugh together, and to learn from, and contribute to, the variety of conversations explored.”
    – Carol A. Poore, Ph.D., MBA
